If you are looking for a new pet, we are available to counsel you on the best pet to fit your lifestyle. We are knowledgeable about different breed qualities and temperaments. We can help you choose the right pet for your household whether you're planning to add a new cat or dog or are interested in a pocket pet (mouse, hamster, rat, ferret). We can also help you pick the right bird, lizard, chinchilla, or just about anything that has fur, feathers, or scales.

Dogs

Selecting the right breed of dog is very important. You must make sure that your lifestyle can accommodate the breed that you have chosen, i.e. a Golden Retriever is not suited for someone who lives in an apartment and is not home for 12 hours a day. Research different breeds and find one that suits your lifestyle. When you choose a breed, make sure to find a reputable breeder. A good breeder should be knowledgeable about the specific needs of their breed and should offer a written health guarantee against genetic health problems. Don't be afraid to ask questions. A good breeder wants a happy puppy as well as a happy owner.

Before you bring home your new puppy, shop for the necessary supplies. You will need a crate (for house training), the correct food (ask what he breeder has been feeding), toys, a leash, and a collar.

You must also choose a veterinarian for your new family member. The Veterinary Center that you visit should be easily accessible, willing to answer all of you your questions, and have hours that are convenient for you. Make an appointment with the vet as soon as possible, so that they can check your new puppy. You should use this visit to ask any questions you may have about the care of your new puppy.

Puppies should be enrolled in a socialization or obedience class around 16 weeks of age, after they have had all of their vaccines. It's important to socialize your puppy and teach them basic manners and commands. No one likes a puppy (or a dog) with poor manners. Basic obedience will help in stressful situations such as a busy pet store or the vet office.

Cats

When choosing a kitten for your family keep a number of considerations in mind. You must decide if you prefer short or longhaired cats. Both require grooming, but the difference between the two is basically how often the grooming takes place. Longhaired cats need to be brushed daily and should be groomed monthly. At this time, the groomer can shave out any unwanted mats. Short haired cats will need to be brushed once a week and bathed only every 3-6 months.

Each breed has its own unique personality. Does your family prefer an independent cat that does not require a lot of time or attention? Or do you want a very friendly cat who purrs, rubs, and demands attention often? A breeder will be able to tell you about the specific characteristics of their breed.

Cats are very sensitive to the environment in which they live. Small disturbances in their life such as a guest in the home or a family member going away, can affect the cat in many ways. They may stop using the litter box or become withdrawn. If there are any changes in your cat's behavior always consider if there have been any events or changes in the household. However, if you notice any change in their litter box use we recommend that you see a veterinarian to rule out a medical problem. Male cats can develop urinary blockages. This condition is very dangerous and can be fatal if not detected early.

Feel free to call us if you have any questions regarding your cats behavior. We have a number of technicians and doctors who want to help you make the correct decisions regarding your cat.
